Non-Christians Go to Hell

Joh 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

No other interpretation to this scripture but ours

Strict interpreters of the bible declare that there is NO exception to their interpretation of this scripture. That is unless one becomes a Christian, he has no connection with God. This is what makes Christianity exclusive to the believers in Jesus. As someone commented recently, “if ‘no man comes to the Father’ except through Jesus, then newborn children, who come from unbelieving families and the mentally challenged as well as every rabbi or holy man of the Jewish faith is doomed to an eternity in Hell”. And I might add, those who were brought up in a different culture and are sheltered from Christianity or indigenous tribes who have never had a chance to even hear the name of Jesus — they’ll all be going to an eternity of torture also.

If you believe some other way, to hell with you!

I was brought up in a country where I learned there was a God and Jesus was the only way to salvation and all other religions lead you to destruction. I was fortunate to have been born in the right place in the right religion and for this I will go to Paradise forever in eternal bliss, while others who were not so fortunate as me must go to Hell to burn in torment for an eternity — because they were born and raised under the wrong circumstances or in the wrong places. I could never understand the logic, justice and love of a god like that.

But how is one even able to come to Jesus unless God permits it?

Since Jesus said:

Joh 6:65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.

So you can’t get to Jesus unless God lets you and you can’t get to God unless you go through Jesus! With this interpretation of John 14:6 there is a great contradiction. If this is really what Jesus meant then he was contradicting himself. Not only that, it makes a cruel monster of the God of love. There is no loving kindness and mercy and longsuffering in this as the bible says. This idea contradicts even the attributes of God laid out in the bible.

If you’re not Christian no matter how righteous you are you go to Hell!

What this means is no matter how good or righteous a person is, no matter if the person has kept the commandments of God that if a person is unbelieving in a lifetime, he goes to Hell for an eternity. That makes God an exclusivist, he only loves those who believe in his only son Jesus. So “For God so loved the world...” is interpreted to mean the world of Christianity, not really the WHOLE world, just the Christian world — the rest of the world can go to hell for all he’s concerned.

The literal interpretation

The problem lies not in that God accepts only believers, but in the interpretation to one little verse in the bible: John 14:6. The problem, as is with so many of their doctrines, is that they interpret literally scriptures that were meant to be metaphors. Translating this literally, as with so many other things that they interpret in this manner, creates a contradiction with other scriptures. What is even more shocking is that they insist on their ridiculous interpretation.

They allow for no other interpretation of the verse and in their minds they create a god that is exclusivist and vengeful. They, not God, created a religion that is exclusive only to those who are believers and are a part of Christianity. If you belong to any other religion or believe any other way than the correct way — their way — you are doomed to Hell for eternity.

So what is the correct way to interpret John 14:6?

Jesus mostly spoke in metaphores. When he used “I” or “me” in his teachings he wasn’t referening to himself, he was referring to something abstract. Literally speaking, Jesus was a human being. The man, Jesus, was not “a way”, or “a truth” or “a life”, etc. These are all non-physical things, a way of expressing ideas. He metaphorically related himself to ideas and truths because those things were what he was teaching about.

You couldn’t say that Jesus was literally “a way” or “a truth” or “a life”. These are spiritual concepts. The words he SPOKE were spiritual. He was not speaking of his flesh, literally, but of the WORDS he SPOKE. There is spirit and life in the words he spoke.

Joh 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Since he is not here physically in the flesh, it is his Words that live on. It is his Words that are actually important, not his literal, physical flesh.

Was Jesus body literally bread that you actually eat?

Here is an example:

Joh 6:58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

Didn’t Jesus call his flesh the bread that he would give the world?

Joh 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

Did Jesus say to literally eat his flesh? No. But the Catholic Church believes that in communion the wafer literally, and somehow miraculously becomes the actual flesh of Jesus! This is completely erronious. When he said I am the “living bread” he wasn’t talking about literally eating his flesh. “If any man eat of this bread” meant to hear and receive and DO the words that he taught. It is his teachings that he gave for the life of the world.

In the same way, WHOEVER comes to God in Truth, and sincerity God hears him — no matter who he or she was born, what religion he or she belongs to, who or what he or she believes God to be. Since God is invisible and no one can hear him and there is no way to actually prove what the “correct religion” is, it could only be that God accepts everyone and not only Christians. And God especially loves those who do good to others and keep his commandments and try to do his will.

The reality is that is it is NOT only those who belong to the Christian religion and believe that Jesus is God and that he was born of a virgin.  Jesus is NOT LITERALLY the way, the truth and the life — he was referring to words that he spoke that he brought from God. These were NOT his words, but the words he SPOKE belonged to his Father in heaven. By the way, Jesus was not the first or the only one to bring God’s words to Earth. And Jesus was not God either.

In reality this is how God relates to all men:

So it is with John 14:6:

  • Any man, no matter who it is, whether Christian or not, can come to God.
  • Any man who comes to God in Truth and sincerity, can come to God.
  • Any man who lives righteously and speaks the Truth, can come to God.
  • Jesus is not literally the way, truth and life — it is the Words that he brought from God that are the way, truth and life.
  • Jesus is the Truth, metaphorically speaking, because he brought the Truth from God.
  • God looks on the heart, and what one does and how he lives, not whether or not he is a Christian or belongs to the Christian religion.
  • A real believer is one who DOES what Jesus taught. You do what you believe.
  • Christianity is a man-made religion, God is not exclusive to any one religion.

All men are judged according to their works — not whether they are Christians or not.

What Christianity is doing is making their religion exclusive and all the others are false. The only way to salvation, in their minds, is if one joins Christianity, a man-made religion that is based on so many falsehoods. God is no respecter of persons nor is he a respecter of religions. It doesn’t matter what religion you are in or where you were born or what the color of your skin might be – God looks on the heart and all men are judged ACCORDING TO THEIR WORKS, not according to what they say they believe or who they say they believe in or even what religion one belongs to.

Rev 2:23 …and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

2Co 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Rev 20:13 …and they were judged every man according to their works.

  1. A little off topic…
You know what would be great! At the end of each of your little articles, you can present some “suggested reading” about that topic. Books. Literature that we can read that can help us to get even more out of these messages.
I’m always looking for something good to read. Sometimes, a person wants more than 500 words on a subject. Sometimes an entire book or volume of books is needed to properly illuminate a man. And you know, those books probably have references to other books that someone can read for even more information.
    Consider it, Doug.
