“If Jesus is Not God, Who is Jesus then?”
![]() Did the some of the writers of the canonical gospels add to the teachings of Jesus? |
This is a loaded question, since all the questions related to this question are based on the answer to its own question, which is based on a false assumption — that Jesus is God. The points in this essay are some of the most common that are used by Christian scholars and church people to defend this dogma that has been handed down through hundreds of years, which was invented by the church fathers of the orthodox church and not the early Jewish believers.
The problems with this logic is: |
This is not proof that Jesus is God. Jesus said that he did nothing of his own self and only that which his Father told him to do (Joh 5:30, Joh 12:49). Jesus is an obedient son, he “learned obedience through the things that he suffered”. Jesus did change in the aspect that he had to learn, that can not be said of God. Jesus was God’s first and became his son at his baptism and not at his birth. The man Jesus changed very much, because he was a man. “God is not a man”.
Jesus
II Peter 3:18 doesn’t say only saviour. It says: “the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour”
Titus 1:4 doesn’t say only saviour. It says: “Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour”
Luke 2:11 doesn’t say only saviour. It says: “the city of David a Saviour”
God
Isaiah 43:11 beside me there is no saviour
Titus 2:10 God our Saviour
I Tim 4:10 the living God, who is the Saviour of all men
The Messiah to the Jews was, according to bible prophecy, a man, not a god, that would “save” them from their oppessors, in this case the Romans. The Messiah as all other messiahs would be of the royal lineage of David and would be a king of the Jews, their savior as king David was.
Luk 1:72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;
Luk 1:73 The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,
Luk 1:74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,
He didn’t “save” them from their enemies the Romans, but he did save them from their worse enemy: their own sins. How did he do that? By bringing the teachings that when heard, believed and followed, the “teachings” which Jesus received from God, when followed saved them from their sins. God is the savior of all men in this sense, since the commandments given by Jesus actually originate from God himself, not Jesus.
Joh 5:30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.
Joh 12:49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
God is the savior and Jesus spoke the saving commandments that God gave to him, and those saving words were not his, but God’s. God, in reality is the saviour of all men, but Jesus is also a savior in the sense that he was the messenger who brought the saving words from God.
Jesus
Heb 1:10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth (this verse can not be found in the Old Testament!!)Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Joh 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made (This is Greek philosophy — not Jewish. This passage could not have been in the original).
God created the heavens and the earth by Himself
God
Isa 44:24 Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
(the next section is connected with the previous send they both have things in common — commentary below)
Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us,
Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The passage Heb 1:10 is not found in the old testament: “And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth”. This may have been added in at a later date, or may have actually been taken out of the old testament, for whatever reason. However, this is just another piece of evidence that actually shows that the bible has been tampered with.
Here comes the bomb: there is no proof that these words (in John chapter 1) were actually the original, since we have no originals to back up these verses — the most ancient codexes are very bad ones and they are from the 5th century. This is very typical of the kind of thing that the church fathers inserted into the text or purposely mistranslated to turn Jesus into a god-man in order to facilitate the conversion of the pagan world to Christianity.
The verses about the Word (Logos from Greek philosophy) creating all things is no where to be found in Matthew, Mark or Luke. It is also not found in the Gospel of the Nazarenes from which much of the writer of John takes much of his material. Almost all of the verses in the first chapter of John are with almost certainty a forgery and on top of that the idea of the Logos of God (translated the Word in John 1) is adapted from Greek mythology. The early Jewish Chirstians did not believe this and this idea to them would have been blasphemy at best and idolatry at least.
Supposedly the epistle of Colossians was written by Paul. There are many things that Paul wrote that were contradictions to the teachings of Jesus, which is why the early Jewish Christians rejected him and his writings as an apostate.
What’s more, it is a known fact that there are many things that were added to the writings of Paul by the orthodox church in order to make his writings conform to the dogmas of the church, particularly the teaching that Jesus was God.
Jesus
Rev 1:17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:
God
Isa 41:4 Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I the LORD, the first, and with the last; I am he.
Here is an example of how they take things out of context and use to prove their own point. Note the word “with”. He was “with the last” in this particular case saying that he was the one with the last person. This is the meaning if you take this in its true context. It literally means “I the Lord, am with the first person from the very beginning and with the last person to the end, so don’t be afraid for I am with you always”.
It is not saying that God is the first and the last. This would not even be true since because God being eternal has no beginning or ending. Jesus would literally be the first and the last since he is the first creation of God and the first begotten son of God.
Jesus
Mar 2:5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.
God
Psa 103:2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
Psa 103:3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
Mar 2:7 Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?
I forgive sins also, but does that make me god?
This is not even close to being a good reason since anyone can forgive sins. In fact, one of the things Jesus was trying to teach through this act was that we should follow his example and forgive others. Jesus was accused of blasphemy for forgiving sins, since if only God could forgive sins then that would make him be saying that he is God — which would be blasphemy.
According to the Jews, anyone claiming to be God would be commiting a blasphemy, which it actually would be. This is another reason Jesus couldn’t be God is that if he claimed to be God he would be commiting blasphemy, which Jesus did not and would never do.
To be continued…

I have never really felt comfortable with the idea that Jesus was God. You give very good points to his non-divinity. One thing that crossed my mind was, how could Jesus be God if he was subject to the law. God is not subject to the law, from my understanding, so how could Jesus be God and man at the same time. What do you think? Does this point hold any validity?
Travis
Excellent point! There are so many reasons that Jesus could not possibly be God. But this is one I had never thought of before. If Jesus were perfect and also God why would he subject to the law? I makes absolutely no sense.
The greatest things that they seem to overlook though, is that Jesus became the son of God at his baptism, when he was 30 years old, and not at his birth. If he “became” a son, this means that he wasn’t a son before. And there was no need for him to have had a miraculous birth to “prove” that he was “divine”. There is just no way that he could have been born God. This is a pure fabrication of the church. Plus according to Jewish law making oneself God was blasphemy, a crime fitting of death! Jesus, being a good Jew and a high priest, would never have committed such a heinous act!
Idolatry and blasphemy in the name of Jesus has become institutionalized and they call it Christianity!
