Biggest Contradictions in the Bible

The most serious blow to the theory of inerrancy of the bible and Christianity are the contradictions within the bible itself. Contrary to what Christian apologists claim, that there are no contradictions in the bible, there are literally hundreds of obvious ones that they either try to explain away or ignore. If contradictions were not enough there are the inconsistencies, mistranslations and forgeries, not to mention many absurdities attributed to God. Just the small contradictions, that might be passed off as petty scribal errors, in themselves alone are enough to make the bible NOT inerrant.

Only a few of the most serious contradictions in the bible itself would be enough to completely destroy Christianity if it weren’t for the power and wealth behind it. Yet literally millions of Christians are either completely unaware of these contradictions or are in denial having accepted wholesale the explaining away of these realities. Some of the biggest and most serious contradictions are a threat to the very foundation of Christianity itself.

The reason for these contradictions are the fact that the bible has been modified from its original state, by whom and when is not at all clear. But what happens when something is changed in one place creates a contradiction, at best an inconsistency.

As I have already supplied the references and actual quotes of the referenced verses below in other posts, only a summary will be supplied for brevity. The following are what I consider to be some of the most serious contradictions in the bible:

Contradiction #1: God considers animal and child sacrifice an abomination and even prohibited Abraham from sacrificing his son, yet in the New Testament God supposedly sacrifices his own son (and it supposedly pleased him to do this!).

Contraction #2: The prophecies about the messiah say he would be a flesh and blood heir of king David, yet the messiah in the New Testament is not of the seed of David but of the holy ghost. (Then Paul turns around and says Jesus is of the seed of David — obviously not aware of the virgin birth)

Contraction #3: God told Jesus at his baptism, when he was more than 30 years old, that it was on THAT day that he BECAME the son of God, yet according to the gospels of Matthew and Luke he was born of a virgin, which means (supposedly) that he became a son at his birth. (incredibly, the church cut God’s declaration to Jesus out of all 4 gospels in order to hide this fact)

Contraction #4: If Jesus was born of a virgin (in order to be God in flesh), then he couldn’t be the messiah, since according to messianic prophecy the messiah would be a biological descendant of king David. It is impossible to be both. (is this one of those “mysteries”?)

Contraction #5: Jesus said he was returning to “his God” and “our God” and he said in heaven the “house of my God”. It is impossible to BE God and HAVE a god also. And the Old Testament says there is only one God and besides him there is no other. (The Old Testament says God is not a man, and then in the New Testament God physically begets son and becomes both a man and a god — at the same time)

Contraction #6: The Old Testament says God was the creator of all things, the New Testament says that Jesus created all things. And even in Revelations Jesus himself says he is the beginning of God’s creation. It’s impossible to be a creation and the Creator both. What’s more, in Isaiah God says he created all things by himself. (How he can do it all by himself and with someone else at the same time is really a mystery)

Contraction #7: Jesus is supposed to be the mediator between God and men. If he is God it’s impossible that he can be a mediator also. (And who are you supposed to pray to? God or Jesus?)

Contraction #8: The gospels say Jesus would be called “Emmanuel”. He was never called this, in fact he was named “Yeshuah”. (since the correct translation into English would be Joshua, why was it translated Jesus in our English bibles?)

Contraction #9: We are told that Mary was the father of Eli, a descendant of king David. However, the fact is Eli died childless. (Furthermore, Eli was of the house of Judah and Mary was a Levite according to the bible)

Contraction #10: King Herod is supposed to had murdered hundreds of children in and around Bethlehem around the time Jesus was supposed to be born, yet Herod died in 4 BC — years before Jesus’ birth. (So either Jesus was born 10 years earlier and he was actually around 41 when when he died, or Herod never really killed the children)

Contraction #11: According to Paul, salvation was not by works of righteousness. According to Jesus, salvation was obtained by works of righteousness and keeping the commandments as was also in the Old Testament. (Jesus never mentioned a change of the plan of Salvation in his teachings)

Contraction #12: According to the New Testament Jesus died as a payment for all men’s sins. Yet according to the Old Testament no man can die for the sins of others, only his own.

Contraction #13: Jesus was supposed to be in the grave for 3 days and 3 nights. However, he passed Friday night, all day Saturday and Saturday night. He raised from the dead early Sunday morning. That’s 2 days and 2 nights according to John (3 days and 2 nights according to Mt, Mk & Lk).

These are only a few of the hundreds of contradictions found in the bible. Anyone who says that there aren’t ANY contradictions in the bible and the bible is inerrant, ether doesn’t know the bible or is in denial or is deceived or just plain lying. There are some that can be legitimately explained away, but there are many that can not. Even a few is enough to make it authentically NOT inerrant, but not a big enough issue that it is not a valid book of morals. However, the huge, serious contradictions created by unscrupulous men who dared to modify its words to their own ends is enough to call into question, not Jesus, but the very religion of Christianity itself.

Don’t get me wrong, I am firm believer in the real words that Jesus actually did teach. I consider him to be number one in my life next to God and his teachings are what guide my life. However, if Jesus were here today, I believe that he would have a lot to say against the falsehoods of Christianity and all the horrors that have been done in his name.
