The Real Name of the Messiah

Did you know that the name we call our Messiah is not his real name? His real name is not nor ever was “Jesus”, but Yeshua. Most Christians today assume that the Greek name Jesus was his original Hebrew name — it wasn’t. If you do some research into the origins of the name you would find out that it is impossible the his name was Jesus. (But I’ve already done the research for you)

My main point here is that this is a very serious mistake in translation and the translation of the Bible is not as perfect as many would like to believe it is.

The Bible is full of excellent Truths, but there are many doctrines that were created, in my opinion, out of the wrong motives and strongly influenced the translators and/or correcors. I believe that there are many passages of scripture that are used today to back up and “prove” many of the doctrines of religion today that are actually based on incorrectly translated scriptures and in many cases, misinterpretations.

The actual name of the messiah in Hebrew is Yeshua in Hebrew (read from right to left). The English name “Jesus” is supposedly derived from the Greek “Iesous” and its Latin counter part “Iesus”. The following is the explanation we are given:

transliteration

We are told that the name “Jesus” was created by Jewish priests who changed the vowel letter from “a” to “e” in the name YHWH, thus changing the pronunciation of Yah to Yeh. The letter “J” doesn’t even exist in Hebrew, Latin or Greek. It was only widely used in the English language after the 14th century.

mistranslation

According to the Oxford Dictionary in Hebrew and Aramaic the original name was yeshua or Jeshua (centuries later) which is pronounced Joshua in modern English. But it assumes that Jesus is the correct translation from the Hebrew.

It is Joshua that means “salvation” or “deliverance” in Matthew 1:21 not the name Jesus.

And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. (Mat 1:21)

Even Strong’s concordance shows us that the original Hebrew was yÈshÙa (Jehoshua) which yehÖshÙa (Yeshua or Joshua) is a contraction of.

Strong’s Concordance
Iesous
Of Hebrew origin; Jesus (that is, Jehoshua), the name of our Lord and two (three) other Israelites: – Jesus. (that is supposing that the correct translation for Jehoshua was Jesus)

There is a very great difference between the two Hebrew names Iesous and Yeshua. Whether it was an “honest mistake” or there was an evil motive behind the mistranslation.

According to The Names and Titles of Jesus by Leopold Sabourin, S.J.,

“Jesus is a transcription or a copy of the Greek name … which is a derivation of the Hebrew Ieshoua, a common Jewish name”

New Testament Originally Written in Greek?

As an interesting side note here, we are told that the name of Jesus was transliterated from the Hebrew to the Greek. Supposedly, the New Testament was written in Greek. How is it that the supposed writers of the gospels, who supposedly knew Jesus personally or at least knew someone who knew him personally, and therefore had to have known and spoken the native language of Jesus — Aramaic — could get his name completely wrong?

Why would these writers have been transliterating the name of Jesus if they were not translating from Aramaic to Greek? This tells me that the New Testament was originally written in Aramaic and translated into Greek, by Greek translators who didn’t know Aramaic and therefore made this “error” (if it even was an unintentional error) in transliteration.

An original manuscript, which we know and have proof that was written in Aramaic by Matthew, one of the original of the twelve disciples of Jesus, the ‘Gospel according to the Hebrews” was in existence during this time. Why is the original manuscript nowhere to be found of this gospel?

There is something very fishy about this whole story about the original gospels having been written in Greek. And there are no originals of the gospels of the New Testament — only copies. There is no proof that they were originally actually written in Greek.
